Home: The Comfort of Unpretentious Dining

In the heart of Los Feliz, at 1760 Hillhurst Ave, you’ll find an unassuming little joint called “Home.” No, not your home - though it might as well be with its warm, inviting aura, and a charming outdoor courtyard, complete with a koi pond, that pulls you into a state of leisure and relaxation.

Make no mistake, this isn’t just about a nice ambiance. On the culinary side of things, Home can really surprise you. Take for instance their Grilled Chicken Avocado sandwich – it’s a delicious medley of Swiss cheese, bacon, lettuce, basil aioli, and a delightful rye bread. Now here’s a twist - ask for the tomato and avocado on the side, and what you get is a unique salad-meets-sandwich experience that feels both innovative and comforting.

Next, we tried the California Eggwich. This light, fresh, fluffy confection with scrambled eggs, a duo of jack and cheddar, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and a kick of chipotle aioli, with an added crunch of bacon on sourdough bread was a satisfying pick. But when the dust settled, it was the Grilled Chicken sandwich that won us over. Sometimes, magic happens in the most unexpected places, and this sandwich was just that - an unexpected delight.

Sure, the garlic fries didn’t exactly blow us away. They were lackluster - under-seasoned and missing that garlic punch we craved. But every restaurant has its hits and misses, and Home is no different. What sets it apart, though, is its commitment to a warm, relaxing dining experience. It’s the kind of place that feels comfortable enough to revisit, if only to try that Grilled Chicken sandwich again, or to enjoy a leisurely afternoon by the pond.

The service is the cherry on top – courteous, efficient, and responsive. Yes, Home can be a hit or miss on the culinary side, but the welcoming atmosphere, the ability to make a reservation, and the surprising hits in their menu make it worth coming back to. We give it a hard-earned 3 out of 5 forks.
